For more than 15 years, Dr Dolan has undertaken a long-term commitment to helping patients achieve and sustain their weight loss goals.
The team at WALOS do this with a dedicated, passionate team of bariatric physicians, dieticians, psychologists, exercise physiologists, nurses and a patient support group all of whom desperately want to see your weight loss surgery succeed and for you to feel great in your own skin.
Your first visit
On your first visit with us, you will meet with Dr Dolan. After he has examined your medical history thoroughly, you will discuss which treatment options are available to you. Then, together with Dr Dolan, you will choose what surgery you will undertake, that is completely tailored to your specific situation.
Once you and Dr Dolan are happy to move forward, and the details of the procedure fully explained to you, you are immediately welcomed by an entire team of weight loss surgery professionals. This means that we are committed to providing you with the very best of care not only during your weight loss surgery, but for the duration of your weight loss journey. It’s never too late to lose weight and we strive at all times to help you end your weight struggle. It is something that we as a practice are utterly dedicated to.
Remember to bring with you on your first visit a:
- Referral letter from GP, family physician or other doctor
- Medicare card, DVA card, pension card
- Have your Private Hospital Insurance information with you
- Copies of results, X-rays, MRI’s, CT scans and other relevant information
- Patient registration form (download it here)
How do I prepare for surgery?
After you are booked in for surgery and undergone the required medical exams, Dr Dolan will run another series of tests before your surgery to ensure that you are healthy enough to undergo the procedure safely.
The steps you must take to prepare for surgery will depend on the procedure you undergo. For all surgeries, you will need to limit or abstain from food the day before surgery. WALOS will provide a preoperative preparation plan based on your needs and surgery.
Just remember, you won’t wake up thin after bariatric surgery. In fact, you may leave the hospital weighing more. But don’t worry, this is only because of the accumulated fluid you will have after the operation. Keep in mind that your surgery is not the immediate answer to weight loss, rather, it’s an internal tool — in the form of a smaller stomach — that will help you on your weight-loss journey.
What to expect after surgery?
So, what about the results? With an approach that has been proven to work and a constant monitoring of our results, we have been able to keep improving our service to you and help you to achieve some of the best results in the world. Dr Dolan has a fantastic success rate and his obesity treatment options are designed to provide you with the platform for healthy, sustained weight loss.
You can expect to take at least six months to lose half of your excess weight. Then you may hit a plateau. It will likely take another year for you to achieve your weight loss goal.
Know that your weight loss will be a journey that will take some time and effort. Having a clear idea of the process ahead can help you stay on track and not give up.
